fragrant oregano

With its hearty, assertive flavour and fragrant properties, a waft of oregano immediately makes you think of a Mediterranean kitchen.

aromatic basil

Basil is extremely aromatic with a scent of pepper, anise and mint. The taste is sweet, but savoury, and, just like the smell, it is peppery yet ever so slightly minty.

sweet tomato

A complex combination of tastes that stimulate the tongue in 3 key areas: sweet, sour and savoury. A good tomato will have all three flavours working in combination which explodes in a medley called "balanced."

olive oil

The olive was native to Asia Minor and spread to the rest of the Mediterranean basin 6,000 years ago. It is among the oldest known cultivated trees in the world - being grown before the written language was invented.

zesty lemon

Brightens up any meal! Loaded with antioxidants, packed with Vitamin C and offering a zesty zing - what’s not to love?

Onions are extremely popular in Mediterranean cuisine, adding a baseline of sweet and earthy flavour to cooked dishes, and contributing a spicy accent when served raw.

rice: the filling

The history of sushi began around the 8th century in Japan. The original type of sushi was first developed in Southeast Asia as a means of preserving fish in fermented rice.

prawn: the royalty

Prawns are considered one of the tastiest ingredients in sushi. Blush flesh with a slightly sweet taste. They are the royal flush!

soya sauce: the salt

Made from fermented soya beans, salt, water and barley. Brings out the flavour of your sushi.

wasabi: the burn

Wasabi has an extremely strong pungency, similar to hot mustard, producing vapours that stimulate the nasal passages more than the tongue.

ginger: the cleanse

Ginger is a palate cleanser in between bites of sushi. Not meant to be eaten at the same time as your sushi.

avo: the texture

Avo is a modern addition to sushi. The fruit is not sweet, but distinctly and subtly flavoured, adding a smooth texture to any roll-style sushi.

seaweed: the wrapping

Loaded with nutritional value. In fact, seaweed has the highest density of vitamins and minerals of any vegetable on the planet!

cucumber: the balance

A mild, almost watery flavour with a light melon taste. Cucumber brings balance to the tip of your tongue.

salmon: the meat

A buttery, dose of healthy, high protein that will melt in your mouth. It’s the centre of the sushi universe.

The Fusion of genius

Meet Ocean Basket’s Sushi Master, Pepi Anevski, the brains behind the Mediterrasian Sushi Revolution. Pepi has more than 15 years of exquisite sushi making experience. His incredible sushi creations won him the 2013 World Sushi Cup in Japan. And, the following year Pepi’s mouth-watering creations won him Most Creative Sushi Chef at the World Cup.

Pepi has used his skill and creativity to develop a brand new take on sushi, exclusive to Ocean Basket. It’s a perfect fusion of flavours from the Mediterranean and Asia designed to excite and entice.

Sushi is Japanese by origin. Broken down to its basic ingredients, it is seaweed, rice, wasabi, soy sauce and ginger. Keeping true to the core rules of sushi, Pepi has added a fine balance of Mediterranean herbs and vegetables to craft the unique Mediterrasian sushi dishes that make...The Mediterrasian Sushi Revolution.
